2 Bananas

1 Cup Pineapple

1 tbsp Chia Seeds

Place all ingredients in food processor and mix until combined. Serve immediately and enjoy!

London Calling

It’s official. My visa’s been approved and I’ll be spending 3 months this summer in America. I can’t believe how fast it’s come around and to be completely honest, I’m not sure I’m ready to go.

DSC00939

Yesterday morning I took the train down to London to attend my meeting at the American Embassy. After power walking to find the place (I was running 5 minutes late) I arrived. The building itself is pretty daunting, let alone the men with machine guns stood outside and so as you can imagine I was pretty nervous. But after going through security I was reassured by talking to the Camp America representatives who checked my paperwork and explained where I needed to go. After a quick interview and a lot of queuing my visa was approved!

Not wanting to waste the opportunity I went for a stroll down Oxford Street and before long something caught my eye. The windows in Selfridge’s had been taken over by installations and thought provoking art. I soon discovered what I was witnessing was part of the 6 week campaign “The Beauty Project”. The aim of the project is to celebrate beauty in all forms and ultimately attempt to redefine the face of beauty. To find out more click here.

Here’s one of my favourite windows…

I couldn’t resist a bit of shopping and managed to restrain myself to only buying some bits I need for America. Four pairs of khaki shorts and 5 white T-shirts later I surfaced. Ready to head home but in desperate need of a refuel I kept my eyes open for somewhere new to eat.

3

Whilst walking back to the tube I found this little gem. A fresh coconut water stall! Boy was it delicious and so refreshing, I just wish I didn’t have to travel all the way to London to get it.

I also grabbed some fresh fruit off the market. Look at all the colours!

After another 3 hours on the train and an hour in the car I was finally home. Safe to say I was exhausted and it’ll be an early night for me!

Two Fat Ladies

2

Last night me and Hollie decided to take a break from typical student night-life and instead of spending money on alcohol or those regretted end-of-night cheesy chips, we spent £8 on a set of bingo books and a dabber. Admittedly, the first thing that comes to mind when I think bingo is elderly women so I didn’t really know what to expect. I definitely did not think I’d be planning to go back again next week.

6

The venue was Beacon Bingo in Loughborough. It was surprisingly modern with the choice of playing the traditional way or via electronic tablets. We chose to play with paper tickets as we’d already bought our dabbers. I couldn’t believe the diversity of people there! With males and females of all ages I had been completely wrong that this was a game for the elderly.

1

At 7.30pm the games started. Thankfully we’d been briefed by the staff on how to play or we would not have stood a chance. The numbers are read out very quickly so you have to pay close attention to keep up. I won’t lie, I really enjoyed dabbing the numbers and the thrill of getting close to winning. The jackpots weren’t small either, with the chance of winning from £15 to £3000 you could sense the excitement in the room and the disappointment when someone claimed the prize before you.

3

Half way through one of the final games I realised I was quite close to winning, with my numbers slowly but surely being called. Then to my surprise I had a full house. I couldn’t believe my beginners luck. It was quite daunting shouting out “claim” but after being awarded my £50 prize it was worth it! I was so happy and with a profit of £42 we headed home.

5

All things considered, tonight has completely changed my opinion of bingo and I’ve enjoyed it so much I might even become a regular.

Drop It Like a Squat

May Lust List

As many of you already know I’m a bit of a fitness junkie and this month I’ve been going crazy for gymwear; the more colourful the better! Nike stocks such a wide range it was hard for me to pick, but these are some of my favourites. I also came across this quirky “drop it like a squat” vest which you can get here.

In addition to working out I’ve been loving smoothies this month. They’re the perfect way to get a balance of nutrition and energy and are so quick and easy to make(check out my Superfood Smoothie recipe) Although they’re not stocked in the UK I’ve really been craving Quest Bars after seeing all the amazing photos of them on Instagram. It’s such a shame that they’re so expensive to ship to the UK. Does anyone know the English equivalent?

Last but definitely not least, Polar Watches are the perfect gym accessory, tracking your heart rate and letting you know your progress in addition to giving you weekly targets. I love setting myself challenges in the gym as it keeps me motivated, however, I might have to look into getting one from eBay though as they are quite pricey.
What’s on your wish list this month?

Topshop Aubrey Boots

Untitled-1

I’ve been kinda obsessed with chunky black cut-out boots for a while now, but couldn’t justify spending £90 on the Topshop pair I wanted. However whilst browsing through eBay I came across the exact pair for only £20. I couldn’t believe my luck.

I felt like a little kid at Christmas patiently waiting for the postman and let out a little scream of excitement when I heard the knock on the door. Call me a shopaholic but I think I’m in love. These are definitely my new favourites!

New Brief: Functionality

Inspiration

So a new term means a new project and boy I like the look of this one. The main concept of the brief is to create a functional object incorporating minimalist aesthetics in response to a stimulus. I chose the word “supporting” as my starting point and began to research. Here’s some pieces I found especially inspiring…

  1. This clever side table is by Bette and Cilla of BE Design. I love the simplicity and fluidity of the form.
  2. I’m extremely interested in footwear and so these sculptural Biopiracy Boots by Iris Van Herpen caught my eye immediately. The idea of using leather in such a way to encompass the leg gets my creative juices flowing.
  3. This is “Minimato”, a minimalist table by Matthias Ferwagner.
  4. “Sling” wall shelf by Weena Lee. Using tension in this way is such a clever idea.
  5. I spotted this beauty at Paris Fashion Week. Inspired by the Bauhaus this structural clutch bag has such a lovely contrast of natural wood and black leather. If anyone knows where to get it from please let me know!
  6. Mojito Shoe by Julian Hakes. The design wraps around the foot in a single piece, supporting the heel and ball of the foot. The shoe is made of carbon fibre, laminated with rubber on the side that touches the floor and leather on the side next to the skin. I love the simplicity and elegance of this piece.

Moomba: Australian Restaurant

DSC00758

Last night I had one of the best meals of my life. No exaggeration.

After arriving back in Loughborough I couldn’t wait to have a catch up and some drinks with a few friends from Uni who I hadn’t seen for 4 weeks. We’d decided to go to a quirky Australian Restaurant called Moomba, with the promise of cocktails, kangaroo and handmade desserts. What more could you ask for?

DSC00750

I’m indecisive anyway, but being faced with a menu on which I want to try every single dish caused some problems. But finally after much deliberation we had all ordered.

My starter was Outback Jerk Chicken Wings with sticky BBQ glaze and sour cream.

DSC00751

Then came my main… barbecued pulled pork in a flame grilled damper roll with smoked chilli and tomato glaze. Served with spinach, rocket and chunky chips.

DSC00759

Although I was pretty full I couldn’t resist the mouthwatering selection of home-made desserts and devoured three scoops of greek yogurt and fig Gelato along with all the trimmings!

DSC00770

Thanks to the two course midweek deal my starter and main only came to £12.95, (which is a bargain if you ask me) and overall, with desert and drinks included, the night cost just under £20. I am one happy customer and would recommend if you’re ever in Loughborough to come give it a go yourself!

Thrifty Finds

satchel

As I explained in my previous post I love a good bargain, partly because I’m a student and don’t have the money to waste but also because I get a buzz out of a good deal. So naturally, when I came home for Easter I had to visit my local charity shops. Sometimes they don’t yield anything worth having but occasionally I find some things I can’t resist. I usually set myself a £10 budget to prevent buying too much and today I even had some money left over… so I treated myself to the new issue of Company to read on the way home! Here’s what I got…

haul

The Orange Satchel Bag caught my eye straight away. The colour is gorgeous and is perfect for adding a bit of colour to my summer outfits! To top it all off it was only £3!! Then I saw this River Island Chelsea Girl Dress. I’d seen it in the shops a few months back but just couldn’t justify paying the RRP. Here it was, mine for only £4. Now I just have to wait for the weather to improve so I can wear them!

Ollie & Nic Louisa Bag

banner featured image

I’ve been on the hunt for a new bag for quite some time, but couldn’t find one that had everything I needed it to. But today, I fell in love. Everybody, this is the “Louisa” bag by Ollie & Nic

Its got plenty of room inside for all my things without being bulky and the gorgeous pastel blue colour makes it perfect for spring. It not only has top handles but has a detachable cross body strap, making it extremely versatile. The Inside of the bag is lined with the prettiest floral fabric I’ve ever seen and not only has a zip up pocket for valuables but also interior pockets that save you rummaging for your essentials. It even has an additional outer envelope style front pocket and to top it all off has a secure zip fastening.
